Z WARD GLENSIDE.
For almost 90 years Glenside's Z Ward was home to South Australia's “criminally insane”.
In May 2019 I went for a tour of Z Ward during one of its Open Days and took the photographs below.

Glenside Hospital & Z Ward.
In March 2013, I took the photographs below of Z Ward and some of the buildings in the old Glenside Hospital (using my i-phone).
The majority of the Glenside Hospital closed in about 2011. It was previously known as the Parkside Lunatic Asylum and the Parkside Mental Hospital. The hospital was opened in 1870.
From the 1970s onwards, with falling numbers and changing methods of treatment, the original site was progressively sold off, largely for housing, and some of the historic buildings refurbished for use by organisations such as SA Health, PIRSA and ArtsSA.
The main administration building has housed the South Australian Film Corporation since 2011, and 2.14 hectares of the original site was sold to Beach Energy in 2014.
You will see some aircraft in some of the photographs below. The Clipsal 500 car race was underway at the time, and there was an air display at the event by the Royal Australian Air Force.
