This term also originates from CW. OM was used as a friendly abbrevation for the person the amateur was in contact with. Some amateurs still use the saying 'Old Man' or 'OM' during voice contacts.
YOUNG LADY (YL).
The term YL, meaning Young Lady, came from CW. It refers to a female amateur radio operator, no matter what her age might be.
