The station has been on air since July 2007. It is produced by the Japanese government agency ‘Headquarters for the Abduction Issue’, targeting Japanese citizens that are believed to have been abducted to North Korea between 1977 and 1983.

The Japanese language broadcast is known as Furusato no Kaze (English: Wind from the Homeland), while the Korean language broadcast is known as Ilbon-ui Baram (Japanese: Nippon no Kaze; English: Wind from Japan).
