The Voice of Korea is the international broadcasting service of the Democratic People's Republic of Korea (North Korea). The station broadcasts in a number of languages including English.
Prior to 2002 the station was known as Radio Pyongyang. Please see my page dedicated to Radio Pyongyang.
The Voice of Korea's history can be traced back to radio station JBBK which commenced broadcasting in 1936 and was operated by the occupying Japanese forces.
In 1945 the station became known as Radio Pyongyang. It was officially inaugurated on the 14th day of October with a libe broadcast of the victory speech of Kim II Sung.
On the 16th day of March 1947 Radio Pyongyang broadcast its first foreign language broadcast (Chinese). In 1950 Japanese language broadcasts commenced, followed by English in 1951, and French & Russian in 1963. Other language broadcasts followed.
By the year 1960, Radio Pyongyang was b roadcasting 159 hours of programming every week. Ten years later in 1970, the weekly programming had increased to 330 hours and by 1980 it was 597 hours per week.
In 2002 the station was renamed the Voice of Korea.

QSL INFORMATION.
The World Radio TV Handbook 2023 states that the Voice of Korea does QSL by way of a QSL card.
However, receiving a QSL card from the Voice of Korea here in Australia is not easy.
All of my letters to the Voice of Korea have been returned unable to be delivered.

The message below appears on the Australia Post website.....
The Australia Post website further states:-
"Australia Post accepts letters and postcards addressed to the Democratic People’s Republic of Korea only at sender’s risk."
Clearly this is not the case, as all of my mail has been returned.

My reception report fpr 6185 kHz (7th January 2022) was returned with two stickers on it.
One read 'The mail could not be delivered due to the blocjed postal route'. Note the spelling of blocj(K)ed. I am not sure of the country origin of that 'blocjed' sticker?
