SOTA DX CONTACTS
Over the years I have made numerous DX contacts to overseas SOTA activators. Below are a selection of some of those.
Dave EA6/EI5IMB
G5AIB Peter - January 2023.
"You were my first ever contact outside of Europe, so I was delighted to speak to you."
F4EGG Thierry - September 2022.
Mike MM7MWL
"I was on a SOTA summit in the west of the Outer Hebrides, off the north-west coast of Scotland, working 10 watts from my KX2 into a simple 20m “up and over” antenna - 17ft vertical with 17ft counterpoise. are my first ever VK contact and I was absolutely delighted you made the call. Thank you so much. It was hugely appreciated and a few glasses of finest malt whisky have been consumed today as a result…..!"
Leopold DL2COM
"I would like to thank you very much for our phone QSO during my activation of F/CR-205 a few days ago.
It was my first Sota summit activation and everything was a bit overwhelming. It was also my first QSO with a VK station so I was too nervous to maintain a good operator etiquette using your callsign (and mine) during our short QSO and giving some information about my rig. So here it comes: I was running a KX-2 with 10 Watts into an endfed random wire (8,75m incl. 5,7m CP and 1:9 Unun) in an L-shape configuration.
I was having a blast finishing off the activation with another 16 CW QSOs and went home a very happy man.
Hoping to meet you again on the bands!"

Carl 2E0HPI and Jonathan M/VK6JON
In 2015 Carl and Jonathan activated Cringle Moor, using just 5 watts from a Yaeu FT-817 and a 20/40 linked dipole. They were a great signal.
Cringle Moor is located on the northern edge of the North Yorkshire Moors National Park GFF-0012.
I received a 5/8 signal report from Carl and Jonathan.
Carl wrote to me: "It was a pleasure to work you this morning on the Summit of Cringle Moor and it's amazing what the FT-817 can do."
