RADIO SWEDEN INTERNATIONAL.
Radio Sweden International (Sveriges Radio International) was part of Sveriges Radion which was founded in 1938.
The station was founded as a way of keeping Swedes who were living abroad, informed of happenings in Sweden. Initially programming was in the Swedish language. In 1939, English and German language broadcasts commenced.
Following the conclusion of WWII, other language services were added: French, Portuguese, Russian, and Spanish.
At he conclusion of the Cold War, Radio Sweden commenced phasing out their services in French, Portuguese, and Spanish. They were replaced by new services in Estonian and Latvian. Upon these countries joining the European Union, those services were also removed.

Radio Sweden International ceased broadcasts on shortwave and medium wave on the 20th day of October 2010. Management of the radio station decided that Internet had matured enough to support international broadcasts.
One of the most popular programs on Radio Sweden was the weekly program called Sweden Calling DXers, founded in 1948 by Arne Skoog. The program was discontinued in 2001.
