RADIO READING SERVICE, NEW ZEALAND.
The Radio Reading Service was located in Levin, New Zealand.
It was established in 1985 and was designed for people who could not hold, could not see, or understand printed information.
It was founded by Allen Little, who himself was legally blind. The station had a staff of 240 people. The volunteers read from newspapers and magazines. The studio was located on the first floor of the Levin Shopping Mall. The transmitter site was located at Weraroa, about 2 km south of Levin.
The shortwave station operated on 3935 kHz via a 1kW transmitter. The antenna was a half wave sloper. The station also operated on 7290 kHz and 5960 kHz.
The station ceased to broadcast from the st day of December 2008. This was as a result of a listener survey and the consideration of cost-effectiveness.
