MY SOTA ACTIVITIES.

My interest in the Summits on the Air program commenced in 2011 when I worked Mike 2E0YYY/p activating GW/NW-040 Moel Famau in Wales.  I was Mike's first ever VK contact from a summit.  Two years later, in 2013, I commenced activating summits.

ACTIVATIONS.

As of 5th February 2022, I have had a total of  156 SOTA activations for the Summits on the Air (SOTA) program.

​I have 403 points as a SOTA Activator.
​
The majority of those have been in South Australia (VK5).  However, I have also activated summits in the ACT (VK1), New South Wales (VK2), Victoria (VK3), and in Germany & Belgium during my 2014 Europe trip.

2022

I have not activated any SOTA summits so far during 2022.

2021

During 2021 I activated just 3 summits.

2020

During 2020 I activated just 1 summit.

2019

2018

2017

In 2017 I undertook 14 SOTA activations, with 10 of those being in Victoria (VK3) during some trips interstate.

2016

It was a quiet year for me with SOTA.  I activated just 11 SOTA summits during 2016.  They being in South Australia (VK5), Victoria (VK3) and Norfolk Island (VK9).
The highlight for 2016, was the activation of Mount Bates summits VK9/ NO-001 on Norfolk Island in the Pacific.

I activated the summit with my wife Marija VK5FMAZ, Heath VK3TWO and his wife Monique VK6FMON, Peter VK3PF, and Ron VK3AFW.

​This was actually Marija's first SOTA activation.  Not a bad way to start off in SOTA.

2015

In 2015 I activated a total of 31 SOTA summits.  These were located in South Australia (VK5), Victoria (VK3), and New South Wales (VK2)

2014

During 2014 I activated a total of 19 SOTA summits.  These were located in South Australia (VK5), Victoria (VK3), Germany, and Belgium.

2013

I first commenced activating SOTA summits in 2013.  My very first SOTA activation was Black Bullock Hill VK5/ SE-016 on the Fleurieu Peninsula, south of Adelaide.  I activated a total of 53 summits during 2013.  A number of these were joint activations with Ian VK5CZ.

My first ever SOTA activation.

My 1st ever SOTA activation was on Sunday 3rd March, 2013, at Black Bullock Hill VK5/SE-016.  It is 365 m ASL and is worth 1 point.  It is located on the Fleurieu Peninsula, about 101 kms south of the city of Adelaide.

I stood on the side of the road for this activation.

My first ever SOTA activation

My 2nd activation.

This is my 2nd SOTA activation from the top of Mt Lofty in the Adelaide Hills.  SOTA reference VK5/SE-005.  
It was during a balmy evening on Fri 8th March, 2013.  
I worked 14 stations on 40m including VK1, VK3, VK4, VK5, VK6, & VK7.
Using my FT-817ND, 5 watts, and a vertical antenna with 5 ground radials.

My 3rd SOTA activation, Mount Gawler

This is my 3rd SOTA activation from Mount Gawler summit (west of Kersbrook in the northern Mt Lofty Ranges).  SOTA reference VK5/ SE-013.  
I managed to work a total of 17 QSO's into VK1, VK2, VK3, & VK5 on 40m.
Using my FT-817ND, 5 watts, a vertical and a 40m dipole on a squidpole.

3 summits activated with Andy, VK5AKH on 14th April, 2013.

Any VK5AKH, and I travelled about 180 kms north of Adelaide to the mid north of South Australia, and activated 3 SOTA summits, on Sunday 14th April, 2013.
Used Yaesu FT-817nd and Elecraft KX3, 5 watts, and a 40m/20m dipole on 7m squid pole in inverted v configuration.
