HISTORY OF THE WIRELESS INSTITUTE OF AUSTRALIA (WIA)
On the 11th day of March 1910 a meeting took place at the Hotel Australia, Martin Place, Sydney, of like minded radio experimenters. They formed the very first body to represent the interests of Australian radio experimenters to the Australian Government, the Institute of Wireless Telegraphy of Australia.
State based organisations followed soon after and a federation with each of the State organisations was later established.
In the early 1920s the various states formed a national coordinating body, the Wireless Institute of Australia and the state organisations became “Divisions”.
The group that started it all was then incorporated as the Wireless Institute of Australia New South Wales Division in May 1922.
In 2004, a new single organisation, 'The National Wireless Institute of Australia' was formed.
