RADIO STATION PEACE AND PROGRESS, USSR.
Radio Station 'Peace and Progress' was a shortwave radio station which broadcast from the USSR during the Cold War period. It presented itself as "the voice of the Soviet public opinion."
The station's predecessor was Radio Peace (or Radio Peace and Freedom) which transmitted from Hungary, commencing in April 1950. In 1954 the station became Radio Freedom. Radio Peace and Progress was established in 1964 as the Soviet Union's response to the American stations Radio Free Europe and Radio Liberty.
Radio Peace and Progress ceased broadcasting at the end of the Soviet Union in May 1991.
