Introduction

The Global Mountain Activity Group (GMA) was formerly known as the German Mountain Activity Group. The German Mountain Activity Group awards commenced on 1st April 2012. It was re-named to Global Mountain Activity Group on 1st August 2015.

Unlike SOTA (which requires 150 metres prominence), any summit which is 100 metres above sea level can be activated in the GMA program. All summits which have a reference number for a program award can be activated or worked, e.g. Summits on the Air (SOTA), World Mountains Award (WMA), HuMP Award, etc.

I joined the GMA in June 2013.

GMA rules

Two important rules are that:-

a. QSOs before 1st April 2012 do not count.
b. Nor do summits which do not have official names.

HuMP's

A HuMP is a summit that has Hundred Metre Prominence, meaning that it sticks up above the surrounding land by at least 100m.

Awards

'Mountain Awards (MA) are issued to both activators and chasers upon reaching certain point limits.

The points system is different to SOTA.

In the GMA program, each 100 metres in height is awarded one (1) point.
e.g.
120 metres = 1 point
700 metres = 7 points
1299 metres = 12 points
