RADIO TASHKENT.
During the 1980s I regularly tuned in to Radio Tashkent in the former USSR, now the independent country of Uzbekistan.
The station broadcast from the capital city of Tashkent.
Radio broadcasting in Uzbekistan commenced in 1914 and provided radio communication service between Central Asia and Moscow. In 1949 broadcasting was extended in the long, medium and shortwave bands.
In 1979 the station employed 560 people.
Radio Tashkent closed in December 2001.
