GHANA BROADCASTING CORPORATION.
On the 31st day of July 1935, radio broadcasting commenced in Ghana.
Those responsible for the commencement of radio in Ghana were the Governor of the Gold Coast,Sir Arnold Hodson, known as the “Sunshine Governor”, and a British radio engineer F.A.W. Byron.
On that day in 1935, gramaphone records consisting of martial and light music were broadcast at 1700 GMT.
Between 1946 and 1953 the broadcasting organisation in Ghana was administered by the Public Relation Department.
In 1953 the Gold Coast Broadcasting System (GCBS) was established
Upon gaining independence in 1957, the God Coast was renamed Ghana. The GCBS became the Ghana Broadcasting Service (GBS).
In 1968 it became the Ghana Broadcasting Corporation.
