Peter Stoddart was born on the 12th day of June 1861 at Strathalbyn, South Australia. His parents were David Stoddart and Christina Stoddart nee McAinsh.
Peter died on the 27th day of January 1868, aged 6 years. His cause of death was drowning.
Peter's elder brother, William Stoddart, was born on the 7th day of October 1854 at Strathalbyn.
On the 1st day of January 1872, William was aboard the steamer Blanche, enroute from Milang to Goolwa with a large party of excursionists.
The Blanche stopped at the Mouth of the Murray to allow the passengers to enjoy a walk on the beach. Four young men, John McFarlane, George Hall, William Stoddart and John Condon, headed to a spot 'about half a mile from the Mouth' to bath and swim.
They were caught in rip and Stoddart and Condon were carried out to sea.
