RICHARD SARNECKI
Richard Slawomir Sarnecki was born in 1923 in Ostog, Poland.
In 1939, he escaped from Poland to England. He flew as a Spitfire pilot in a Polish squadron that was attached to the Royal Air Force (RAF).

He was shot down over Germany and became a Prisoner of War (POW) fr the last remaining months of World War Two.
Richard emigrated to South Australia following the war.
On the 12th day of December 1952, he married Brenda Lewis at Mount Gambier, South Australia.

He was Strathalbyn's Station Master in 1974.
In 1974 Richard became the first person in Strathalbyn to own a colour television set. He imported all of the parts and assembled the television himself.
