JOSEPH MILNES
Joseph Milnes was born on the 7th day of September 1811, at Nether Broughton, Leicestershire, England. His parents were Charles Milnes and Frances Milness nee Gill.
On the 18th day of May 1835, he married Ann Barnes at St Mary, Bryanston Square, England.
They had 14 children.

He emigrated to South Australia in 1849 aboard the Bolivar.
His wife Ann died on the 14th day of March 1850, at Adelaide, South Australia, aged 40 years.
In 1852, he spent nine months on the Victorian gold diggings.
Joseph married Betsy Cozens on the 15th day of October 1855, at his home in Strathalbyn.
Joseph was a mason and building contractor. He constructed several of Strathalbyn's earliest houses, public buildings, and bridges.
Joseph was still able to work and climb on scaffolding until he reached the age of 90 years.
Joseph was a member of the Wesleyan Church and he frequently occupied the pulpit. He was also a Strathalbyn town Councillor for several years.
Joseph died on the 30th day of March 1906, at Strathalbyn, South Australia, aged 94 years.
