CALLSIGN FOR LIFE.
In 2020, the Australian Communications Media Authority (ACMA) issued a callsign for life policy in Australia.
The changes were made to:
As a Foundation operator, you are no longer restricted the suffix in your callsign commencing with F and having four characters, e.g. VK5FMAZ.
If you upgrade you are no longer required to change your callsign.
Two letter callsigns remain assigned to Advanced qualification.
If you move interstate, it is no longer a requirement to obtain a new callsign, e.g. VK5PAS moves from South Australia to Victoria, they are not required to obtain VK3PAS for example.
The changes were made to:
- allow all amateurs to obtain a 3 letter callsign
- remove the assocation between callsign suffixes and qualifications
